What would you consider the more important skill for a collector – superior
speaking or superior writing skills?
Answer: I am not sure, but I do believe that active listening skills are more
important than strong speaking and writing skills. Good collectors know
that it is best to talk less and listen more both to what is being said
and what the debtor is not saying. As a general rule, collectors tended
to talk too much and listen too little. In most instances, it is the
quality of interactions with customers that results in payment rather
than the quantity of collection calls made.
