Encouraging Loyalty In Employees
by Michael C. Dennis M.B.A., C.B.F.

Being able to inspire loyalty among subordinates is one of the marks of a leader. Loyal employees tend to work hard, are more efficient, and have lower rates of absenteeism.

Here are a few ideas to encourage employee loyalty:

  • Criticize in private

  • Praise in public

  • Keep your commitments

  • Give your subordinates the benefit of the doubt

  • Give honest appraisals of performance to subordinates

  • Correct mistakes as they occur

  • Treat everyone with respect

  • Show appreciation

  • Avoid favoritism

  • Remembers that rewards and recognition work better than threats and other forms of intimidation in motivating individuals to improve their performance

  • Develop specific and measurable goals for every person who reports to you

  • Don't criticize your manager, your peers or your employer’s decisions in front of your subordinates
